The buildings themselves and innovative design concepts have not been considered, as these structures show a lack of imagination and are defined by a strictly cost-based determinant that limits the architectural values of aesthetic and art form with the cultural heritage each site offers. In deferrence to these trends I offer some interesting, new conceptual approaches for design paramerters the developers shouild consider.First off, I think any new development needs to be considered as a special built artifact. By this, I mean a destination that people and guests come to NOT just for the gambling amenities, but also as a destination attraction. Not just your standard hi-rise box and long span casino hall with cute aluminum siding and... less

What has turned us into "slaves" as Laurie put it, was not the education process, the paper chase or the work environment. Let's be responsible for our own actions. Low bid process, cost/fee issues, these negotiations none of us are forced into, are the bottom line.I have walked from many potential commissions ( direly needed!) simply because this was no longer about architecture- and the fee structure was not commensurate to my efforts (-as team members too). Building designers and design/construct build engineers do great jobs, and there is nothing artistically aesthetic about this. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Few understand that great design costs less.Sendil has valid points about CDocs effectiveness, even though we've passed the 1990's some eighteen years ago- but not about what architecture really is.I reject a certain cynicism because we... less

It does not matter who, how talented, or with how much financial backing, these often highly imaginative projects are not testament to a collective improvement, as touted. I adhere to my father’s old aphorism:“ The letter "i" in the word "architecture" is a small letter.â€Alfred Browning Parker, F.A.I.A. Unfortunately, the ego-stroking, public-relations-wise, master-planning architects forget some of our more basic professional tenets: Large scale project designs in urban areas have been exclusive, gross miscalculations. Instead of inviting the human element, scale, material and light/sculptural form, we preclude ourselves from it, in consideration of the bombastuous, ego-driven structural aggrandizements. Eventually, it all falls back to dust, the good, the great and the bad, as nothing is ever spared the consequences of time. It is the second law of thermodynamics. Sometimes, the once... less

The Earth is part of me, as I am part of this Earth. We are inseparable; we are co- dependent upon each other. 2. This planet is a closed eco-system with clearly defined limits. We cannot change the sum of all parts; we can only affect how we interact, and what our impact is. Sustainable growth in a limited, confined system is an oxymoron. 3. As the predominant, evolved senescent beings, we have become the primary caretakers and caregivers of our common environment. Our responsibilities have grown beyond a personal value of self to a global social consciousness with common moral principles.
